Jacksonville Goes 2-0 Behind A Pair of Shutouts on Second Day of River City Leadoff

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville softball (2-1) collected two wins on the second day of the River City Leadoff, shutting out both Providence and UMass Lowell. The 'Phins scored a combined 14 runs while holding their opponents scoreless thanks to spectacular pitching efforts by sophomore Haley Holloway and junior Seana Mora

Vs Providence

Holloway put together a shutout performance against the Providence Friars to begin the second day of the River City Leadoff tournament. The sophomore allowed 10 hits, but nobody reached home in a seven inning showing by Holloway. The Chauncey, Ga. native recorded three strikeouts on the day.

Jacksonville's 10 hits, on the other hand, yielded six runs to collect the first win of the 2019 season. Jacksonville got off to a hot start, loading the bases with the first three batters to see the plate. One run was scored in the first inning, followed by three more in the second.

Freshman Victoria Rodebaugh did much of the work for the Dolphins in the early parts of the game, scoring two runs and collecting an RBI in just her second collegiate contest. Kassidy Cross and Makenzie Buss also went 2-for-4 to contribute to Jacksonville's win.

Vs UMass Lowell

Jacksonville's second game of the day was a rematch of Friday's showdown with the River Hawks. Another shutout effort and an eight-run explosion by the 'Phins' lineup pushed their 2019 win total to two.

Mora pitched six innings and gave up just three hits to go along with three strikeouts.

Again Jacksonville recorded 10 hits in the winning effort. Abby Genest, Serena Quinata, and Cross each went 2-for-3 at the plate to help Jacksonville score a season-high eight runs. Quinata knocked in a team-high three RBIs to put Jacksonville in position to defeat the River Hawks in their second meeting.

Jacksonville will continue play on the third and final day of the River City Leadoff on Sunday when they face Georgia Tech at 12:30 PM. The Yellow Jackets have gone 1-2 in the first two days of the tournament.
