JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the second consecutive season, the Jacksonville University women's basketball team is going dancing in the postseason! The Dolphins received the ASUN Conference's automatic qualifying bid into the Women's National Invitation Tournament and will play at Central Florida on Wednesday, March 14. A tipoff time is yet to be determined.
The tournament field consists of 32 automatic invitations – one from each conference – and 32 at-large teams.
"Obviously we are disappointed that we didn't reach our ultimate goal and win the ASUN Championship, but nevertheless we are excited about having the opportunity to compete in postseason play," stated Head Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin. "We are familiar with UCF and look forward to giving our best effort on Wednesday!"
The Dolphins' season accomplishments include: setting the mark for most wins in a single season (24), the ASUN Defensive Player of the Year (Kayla Gordon), two all-conference selections (Kayla Gordon and Jasmyn Brown), and the second-best RPI in the ASUN (95).
Jacksonville made it's first-ever appearance in WNIT a year ago, where it fell to the eventual runner-up, Georgia Tech. The first round of the WNIT begins March 14-16.
The second round runs March 17-20, round three goes March 21-23, quarterfinals are March 24-26, and the semifinals will be played March 28-29. The championship game will be played Saturday, March 31 and will be televised live on CBS Sports Network at 3 p.m.
