WOLCOTT, Co. – Jacksonville University women's golf wrapped the GolfWeek Conference Challenge Wednesday, finishing 18th.
Maria Brunzell was Jacksonville's top individual performer, finishing T-32nd with a 224 (76-76-72) in one of the most challenging fields in women's college golf.
Brunzell saved her best round for last, shooting even par and birdieing six holes, including four in a row at one point. Amanda Detmer finished with a 230 (76-77-77) and Hannah Berman came in with 233, bouncing back with a 77 after a tough day Tuesday. Mawgan Vater stayed consistent in her first collegiate tournament, birding two holes in her final round and Paula Trejo Lerdo showed marked improvement on Wednesday as well.
As a team, the Dolphins recorded 138 pars, 24 birdies and an eagle over the three-day tournament at Red Sky Golf Club, with Berman scoring even on Par-3s, the fifth best total of any player. Brunzell was tied for eighth in the field on Par-4s, shooting even for the tournament, and her nine birdies were tied for the eighth most.
Jacksonville returns home to compete in the BUBBA burger Jacksonville Classic next Monday and Tuesday at Marsh Landing Golf and Country. The Dolphins are the reigning champs of the event, both as a team and individually, with Detmer taking home medalist honors last year.
