BRADENTON, Fla. – Two players shot under-par rounds and Jacksonville University women's golf posted the third best team score on Monday to move up to fifth on day two at the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational.
"We are really proud of the team for their comeback today," said Head Coach Jennifer Borocz. "The conditions were not easy out there.
"Both Louise and Maria rebounded well from yesterday's round."
The two natives of Sweden combined to sink five birdies to finish in the red. It is Persson's best round of the year, and she accomplished it with remarkable consistency, sinking 15 pars in a row after birdieing hole two, before ending the round on a high note with another birdie on 18. Brunzell shot 1-under on both the front and back nine, ending her day with no bogies and two birdies over her last 12 holes. Her six birdies are tied for fourth most in the field through the first two rounds.
Amanda Detmer is still in the hunt for the individual medalist honors, as her second round 73 puts her in a tie for third, just two strokes off the lead, with one round to play. Detmer continues to excel on the shortest and longest holes, scoring a tournament best 3-under on Par 3s and is tied for fifth shooting 2-under on Par 5s after two days of play.
The 288 is the team's best round thus far this season, and was an improvement of 13 strokes over yesterday. The Dolphins are in the top five in team scoring on Par 3s and Par 5s, shooting 5-over and 2-over on the holes, respectively. JU is also tied for the third most birdies through two rounds, with 22.
Round three starts tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Vater starts on hole eight, in the B group, Persson on hole seven and Brunzell hole six. Berman and Detmer will both go off hole five, with the former in the A group and the latter in the B group.
