JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Following a solid start to the 2018 season, Jacksonville University women's lacrosse captain Ashtyn Hiron was selected as the Pepsi Student-Athlete of the Month for February. The midfielder has allowed the Dolphins to be nationally competitive thus far, and has received multiple accolades for her performance.
Hiron steadied the ASUN conference with 10 goals, 12 points, and 20 draw controls in four contests during the first month of competition. The Perth, Western Australia native recorded hat tricks in contests against Big 10 foes Michigan and Ohio State, leading JU to home wins over both squads.
The three-time Australian National Team member has had no shortage of regional and national recognition this season. Named the ASUN Preseason Player of the Year prior to the 2018 campaign, she has received a pair of Player of the Week honors from the conference for her performances in the previously mentioned wins.
Hiron made history on March 1, becoming the first Jacksonville women's lacrosse player to receive a national weekly award. Following a six point performance to lead the team to a 17-16 overtime victory over OSU, the midfielder was voted Alpha Lacrosse National Player of the Week. Hiron also tallied 11 draws and a ground ball, and converted on all three free-position shots she attempted.
The senior holds a wide array of conference honors from her previous years on the team. The 2016 ASUN Defensive Player of the Year, she is a two-time First-Team All-ASUN selection (2016 & 2017), making the conference's All-Tournament squad in 2015 and 2016.
