LAKEPOINTE, Ga. – After helping the Jacksonville University women's lacrosse team overcome a pair of conference opponents on the road and push its win streak to four, Ashtyn Hiron has once again been named the ASUN Player of the Week.
The Perth, Western Australia native continued her dominant senior campaign for the Dolphins, accumulating 11 total points in wins at Old Dominion and Coastal Carolina. The second-year captain matched her career-high in points in Friday's affair, tallying six goals and two assists in the team's 21-12 rout of the Monarchs. Hiron followed the performance by posting her seventh-consecutive hat trick in Sunday's come-from-behind victory over the Chanticleers.
The midfielder was on-target in every aspect of her game, as JU began its quest for a fifth ASUN Championship in six years. A perfect 3-3 in free position shot opportunities, she won 10 draw controls and fired 11 of her 14 shots on-goal. Defensively, she collected 10 ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.
Leading the 'Phins to their sixth straight 2-0 start to conference play, Hiron has cemented herself as one of the ASUN's top competitors in 2018. The two-time All-Conference selection leads the league in points (53) and points-per-game (4.82) this year, and ranks second in goals (41).
Winning her third straight and fifth overall ASUN Payer of the Week honor, she continues a trend in which a Jacksonville player has been honored with a conference accolade in each of the first nine weeks of the season.
Hiron and the 'Phins continue conference play this week, opening up a five-game home stand to wrap up the season. The team plays host to Howard on Friday, April 13 at 4:00 p.m., before welcoming Delaware State to D.B. Milne Field on Saturday, April 14 at noon.
