Elms Earns April Napa Newcomer of the Month

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Following several dominant scoring performances and contributions which led to an ASUN Regular-Season Title, Jacksonville University women's lacrosse's Sarah Elms was named the Napa AutoCare Newcomer of the Month for April.

After establishing herself as one of the top freshman in the league in previous months, Elms exhibited breakout performances in seven contests in April, leading the Dolphins with 36 points, as they went a perfect 7-0 on the month. The Saverna Park, Md. native notched four hat tricks, and became just the fifth different 'Phin to score eight points in a contest on April 20, as JU took down Mercer, 19-7.

Additionally, Elms fired off 49 shots last month, with 29 coming on-goal. She caused eight turnovers picked up 10 ground balls, including a career-high four against Mercer, and won nine draw controls, earning a career-best six in the team's 24-9 victory over Kennesaw State on April 22.

The 5-6 attack received recognition from the conference for the second time this season on April 24, earning ASUN Player of the Week honors. Elms totaled 15 points on the weekend, including back-to-back six point games, with 15 of 19 shots coming on-goal. She previously won Player of the Week Honors back on March 20.

Along with helping the Dolphins rank as the top-scoring offense in the country (17.5 goals-per-game), Elms ranks fourth in the conference in the statistic (2.43) and is tied for the league lead in ASUN action with fellow Dolphin Ashtyn Hiron (4.33). She sits third in the conference in points-per-contest in ASUN play, averaging 4.67 per-game.

Elms is the second JU women's lacrosse player to be given a monthly honor this season, joining Hiron, who took home Pepsi Student-Athlete of the month for February.

Winners of their last eight contests, Jacksonville locked up its sixth ASUN Regular-Season Title after finishing a perfect 5-0 in conference play, going undefeated in league action for the fifth time in the last six years. The number one seed in the upcoming ASUN Tournament, the 'Phins will look to defend their crown on their home turf, hosting the event at D.B. Milne field for the second-straight season.
