PHILADELPHIA – Two of Jacksonville University's lacrosse coaches will be sharing their knowledge at the 2019 US Lacrosse Convention, Saturday at the Philadelphia Convention Center.
Beginning at 10:45 am, Dolphin men's lacrosse head coach John Galloway will be speaking creating your own identity, establishing a team culture based on institution or geographic location. Since his first season at JU, Galloway has made a point of branding his team with Duval Mission – aptly named for the county Jacksonville is located in Florida.
With their vision of reaching unprecedented heights, the Dolphins are well bought in after improving from a 3-11 record in Galloway's first season in 2017 to an 8-7 record and first appearance in the Southern Conference Tournament championship in 2018. The Duval Mission continues in 2019 as the Dolphins seek their first-ever SoCon title and NCAA Tournament run.
Later in the day, women's lacrosse Associate Head Coach Paul McCord will be speaking on program development and building a team from core values up at 1 p.m. No stranger to the challenges and opportunities presented when starting a program, McCord – along with his wife and JU women's head coach Mindy McCord – played a crucial part in bringing lacrosse to the University 10 years ago.
The McCords' approach has been cemented in the Dolphins' record books and evidenced by Jacksonville's 13 titles – seven regular season and six conference tournament crowns – along with 15 NCAA yearly statistical championships, including the NCAA scoring record with 18.45 goals per game in 2018.
