JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University's women's rowing program -- two-time reigning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champions -- has announced its spring schedule. The five-regatta slate begins with a scrimmage against Old Dominion on Feb. 13.
"Although I'm trying to play catch up in terms of getting us the most competitive schedule possible, I feel we have some awesome opportunities to race amazing competition," the Dolphins' newly hired Director of Rowing and women's head coach Mike Lane said.
"Going after our third-straight MAAC title is a huge challenge. Everyone in the league has continued to raise the bar, and we could not be more excited to do the same."
The Dolphins' schedule kicks off in DeLand, Fla., with a scrimmage against Old Dominion on Feb. 13. The team will have a month to prepare for its official racing season.
Action begins March 19 at Tuscaloosa, Ala., where the Dolphins face host Alabama and Drake. The regatta will be followed by back-to-back April outings, the Knecht Cup (April 10) and the SIRA Championship (April 16).
The pinnacle of the spring schedule will be the MAAC Championship May 15. Jacksonville seeks its third-straight league title and if successful, will earn another automatic berth to the NCAA Championship in Sacramento, Calif.
"The exposure we have had at the NCAA Tournament has not only opened the eyes of our student-athletes, it has put JU on the map," said Lane. "We want to continue that trend as progress through our spring racing schedule. The kids have worked hard daily, and I could not be more excited to be a member of this program!"
