BUFFALO, N.Y. – A primer for May's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship awaits Jacksonville University women's rowing in the Black Rock Cup at West Side Rowing Club Saturday.
"Getting the opportunity to race league competition before the MAAC Championship will be extremely valuable as we prepare for the championships in mid-May! Although we will be out of our element with respect to the cold weather, we are ready to deal with anything. The adversity we have dealt with this year with respect to the hurricane in the fall has made us ready for anything!
We are looking forward to building on the success we had last weekend at SIRA, and not to mention the opportunity to continue to fine tune and get faster as we prepare for the MAAC Championships," said Head Coach Mike Lane.
The Varsity 4 is set for races at 10 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. The first race is against MAAC foe Marist College as JU takes Lane 1. The 12:50 p.m. race pits the Dolphins in Lane 2 against host Canisius College and Fairfield University.
The Varsity 8 will race at 9:10 a.m. and 12:10 p.m. The first race will see JU occupy Lane 2 and row against Canisius and SUNY Geneseo. In the latter sprint, JU (Lane 1) will square off with Marist.
The Second Varisty 8 will sprint at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The morning race sees JU in Lane 2 rowing opposite of Marist, and the afternoon race has the Dolphins in the same lane against Fairfield.
Following the Black Rock Cup, Jacksonville prepares for the MAAC Championships on May 12.
