D'Entremont Named Preseason Player Of The Year

Macon, Ga. – The ASUN Conference announced its women's soccer preseason honors and coaches' poll Monday, and Jacksonville University forward Joelle d'Entremont has been named the 2017 ASUN Preseason Player of the Year.

She was also voted the Preseason Player of the Year according to the ASUN's social media fan vote.

The Nova Scotia native looks to build off a strong 2016 season, which saw her rank third in the league with 54 total shots, fourth in shots-on-goal with 26, and earn First Team All-Conference honors.

"It feels great," d'Entremont said. "I think from freshman year to senior year I've improved quite a bit, so it's quite rewarding to receive this award."

The returning captain appeared in all 16 regular-season games for the Dolphins last year, leading the team in with four goals and four assists for a total of 12 points, also a team high.

"I'm extremely proud of Jo," said Head Coach Brian Copham. "Jo's one that's come in every year and has gotten better and better. I think the award is a testament to her work rate, her competitive nature, her competitive spirit, and how hard she works."

In addition to winning the ASUN's highest preseason honor, as voted on by the league's coaching staffs, d'Entremont was also well received by the fans of the conference, receiving 312 votes on Facebook to be named the Fan-Voted Preseason Player of the Year.

In the ASUN preseason coaches' poll, the Dolphins were selected to finish fifth in the field, taking home 31 total points. Florida Gulf Coast was chosen to repeat as the ASUN women's soccer champion, earning 61 points and five first place votes.

"We've got work to do this fall to make sure that it's a different outcome," Coach Copham said. "I think for us, the motivation (to win) has to come from ourselves. That's where people think we're going to be. It doesn't matter what we think and talk about. The only poll that really matters is the one that comes out on the second Monday in November after the conference tournament."

Looking to rebound of a 4-11-1 mark in the 2016 season, JU will begin their season with a pair of scrimmages later this week, before opening up 2017 regular-season play at home on Friday, Aug. 18, against Charleston Southern.
