Former Jacksonville University Women's Soccer Captain Julia Burton is beginning her second season as a member of the Dolphins' coaching staff in 2017.

When Women’s soccer Head Coach Brian Copham rounded out his 2016 staff, het have to look further than his 2015 roster to fill the position. Former captain Julia Burton returns to Jacksonville as the team’s assistant coach.

“We are excited to have Julia join the program in a coaching capacity,” said Copham. “She was an excellent player for us and will add a player’s point-of-view to our staff. I am looking forward to her working with us to continually build this program.”

Assisting Copham and assistant coach Ryan Patridge in all phases of the program will be an easy task for Burton. In four years, the midfielder from Halifax, Nova Scotia never missed an appearance for the Dolphins. She started every match since her freshman campaign to tie for 10th in program history in matches played.

Burton wrapped her JU career with four goals, three assists, an overall record of 41-28-8, an Atlantic Sun Tournament title, a regular season conference title, a trip to the NCAA Tournament, and multiple All-Academic honors.

"Returning to the JU women's soccer family is a true blessing,” said Burton, “and I hope that I can instill that passion and love for the game to help this program and all the individuals involved to develop and create memories for years to come. I want to continue to learn and love the sport and be a part of this program's future. It’s exciting to give back to the program that has taught me so much about soccer, school, and life."
