LAKE POINT, Ga. – Three members of the Jacksonville University women's track and field team were selected to the ASUN Conference All-Academic Team, as announced by the league Thursday afternoon.
For the third time in her career, graduate student Stormm Phillips earned a spot on the All-Academic Team, while it is the second-straight year junior Brittany Bowald has been a unanimous selection. Additionally, it is redshirt-senior Caitlin Marino's first time being selected to the team.
The 2015 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Phillips was also named to the All-Academic Team in 2015 and 2016. The Valdosta, Ga. native has maintained a 4.0 cumulative GPA while pursuing her MBA. Phillips was a two-time ASUN Champion in the triple jump and as a member of the 4x100-meter relay at this year's ASUN Outdoor Championships. Her wind-aided mark of 13.12 meters (43 feet, 0.5 inches) in the triple jump eclipsed her previous meet record and set a new program record for the Dolphins in the event.
The 2018 ASUN Indoor Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Bowald has a 4.0 cumulative GPA while studying marketing. A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Bowald placed third in the triple jump (12.40m/40 ft., 8.25 in.) and fourth in the long jump (5.70m/18 ft., 8.5 in.) at the ASUN Outdoor Championships. She also ranks second in the league in the triple jump and third in the long jump. Bowald set a personal best in the triple jump at the UNF Invite with a mark of 12.90m (42 ft., 4 in.) to improve her mark as the program's second-longest distance in the event.
Both Phillips and Bowald qualified in the triple jump and will participate in the NCAA East Prelims this weekend at the University of South Florida.
From walk-on as a freshman to ASUN Champion this season as a redshirt-senior, Marino has risen through the ranks and maintained a 3.958 cumulative GPA while earning her MBA. The Barrington, R.I. native won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the ASUN Outdoor Championships with a time of 10:56.47, and earned a place on the All-ASUN Third Team in the event just a year ago. With the top time in the ASUN, Marino also placed fourth at the championships in the 1,500-meter run.
