Mattingly Named Napa Autocare Newcomer of the Month

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Every month, Napa Autoparts recognizes a "Napa Newcomer", honoring a freshman or transfer student-athlete of Jacksonville University for exemplary performance in competition and in the classroom. Volleyball freshman Mallory Mattingly has earned the accolade for the month of September.

The Sanford, Fla., native is off to a red-hot start and has been a key member of Jacksonville's squad so far, leading the team in kills (144) and is third in digs (132). The freshman has five double-doubles.

"Mal being named newcomer of the month is quite an honor. She carries a huge load for us and to do what she does every night, as a freshman, just gets me more excited for her future as a Dolphin. She still has a ton of stuff to fix and improve upon but we are off to a good start. I think the relationship and trust is there so she fully understands that we have to keep getting better, we can't just plateau and be satisfied with a couple 10 kill/10 dig performances. It's all about setting a standard and exceeding expectations. She is a coachable player and I enjoy having her in our program," said Head Coach Julie Darty.
