MACON, Ga. –Collecting the first such honor in her career, Jacksonville University's Mackenzie Swan has been selected by the ASUN Conference as the Defensive Player of the Week. A libero and defensive specialist from Colorado Springs, Colo., Swan played in all 7 sets over the weekend, leading the Dolphins to their first ASUN win of the season.
""Mackenzie is always an anchor for us. She does a great job doing her job and leaving everything she has out on the floor. I'm proud of Kenzie for this award and recognition but I know that Kenzie is not satisfied with the way she is playing right now and that is what makes her great. She constantly is trying to get better and improve in all aspects of her game," stated Head Coach Julie Darty.
Swan had 39 digs in two matches, averaging an astounding 5.57 digs per set. In the Dolphins' win at the New Jersey Institute of Technology she had 26 digs and three assists in four sets, averaging a mind-blowing 6.5 digs per set. The junior followed up that impressive performance with 13 more digs at USC Upstate, stretching her streak of consecutive games with double-digit digs to 17.
The Dolphins return to action this weekend at Florida Gulf Coast on Friday at 6 p.m. and at Stetson at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
