Dolphins Upended by League-Leading Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After going 3-1 at home and riding a two-game win streak into this weekend's road swing, Jacksonville University's volleyball team was upended by ASUN Conference leader Lipscomb 3-0, Friday evening.

The Dolphins (9-17, 5-8 ASUN) struggled to get their offense going, as the Bison (19-7, 11-2 ASUN) earned six of the first eight points in the opening set.

Kills from Mallory Mattingly and Olga Nushtayeva brought the set within three, 9-6, but Lipscomb took six of the next seven points to put game one out of reach, 25-12.

Games two and three were much of the same as the hosts used several multiple-point rallies to stop Jacksonville in its tracks and keep the Dolphins off balance. The final two sets were taken by Lipscomb with identical 25-14 scores.

Mattingly led JU with eight kills, Jessica Armstrong chipped in five, and Jizzyan Gesualdo added 21 assists. Defensively, Mackenzie Swan finished the game with eight digs. Gesualdo and Mattingly recorded six each, as well.

The Dolphins close out the regular season tomorrow night at Kennesaw State. Opening serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
