Blas Ruelas joined the Jacksonville University Sports Medicine department in 2006.
For the 2015-16 school year, Blas has been promoted to Associate Athletic Trainer and will oversee all aspects of healthcare for the student-athletes involved with men's lacrosse. Prior to the 2015-2016 school year, he has also worked with men's soccer and baseball teams. Before coming to JU he served two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Louisiana Tech University. While at Louisiana Tech, he worked with the football, baseball and women's tennis programs.
Prior to Louisiana Tech, he was an intern athletic trainer at Kalamazoo Central High School during the 2004 season. Ruelas began his career as a student athletic trainer for his alma mater, Western Michigan University, from 1999-2004.
A native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Ruelas is a Licensed Athletic Trainer by the State of Florida Department of Health, Certified Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification, Inc. and is a member of NATA, Southeast Athletic Trainers' ssociation and the Athletic Trainers' Association of Florida. He also holds a certification as a Corrective Exercise Specialist by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. He is also a preceptor by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Education Council.
Ruelas earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science with an emphasis in athletic training at Western Michigan in 2004 before going on to earn his master's in health and exercise science at Louisiana Tech in 2006. Ruelas and his wife, Katie, and daughter, Lola, currently reside in Jacksonville
