Sand Volleyball Falls in 2014 Season-Opener

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University sand volleyball opened its 2014 season on Friday, March 7 and fell 5-0 at the hands of Florida International University (FIU).

Jacksonville's No. 1 duo of Sammie Strausbaugh and Taylor Nyquist lost 21-14 and 21-19 verses Ksenia Sukhareva and Maryna Samoday, while JU’s No. 2 pairing of Alyssa Robertson and Jizzian Gesualdo fell 21-14 and 21-7 to Kristine Monforte and Maryta Gluchowicz.

The No. 3 duo of Kendall Courtney and Niatha Cullen fell 21-16 and 21-11, Emily Laskelle and Rachel Miller lost 21-10 and 21-13, and Gabriela Roman and Mayara Prestes lost 21-17 in straight sets.

Jacksonville will return to action on Saturday, March 8 for a two-day competition in UNF’s Sand Invitational. The Fins will face Georgia State (12:30 p.m.) and South Carolina (3:30 p.m.) before finishing on Sunday against Florida State (10:30 a.m.) and FAU (1:30 p.m.).
