Volleyball Falls to Eastern Washington, Eastern Michigan in JU Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University volleyball team fell to Eastern Washington, who advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season, 30-21, 30-23, 30-16, Saturday afternoon in the JU Invitational at Swisher Gymnasium. The Dolphins also dropped a 31-29, 30-19, 30-22, decision to Eastern Michigan in the night session. JU sophomore outside hitter Kelly Ryals (Gainesville, Fla.) was named to the all-tournament team after leading the Dolphins with 37 kills and 34 digs in three matches.

Eastern Washington's Lindsay Page was the unanimous choice for the tournament's Most Valuable Player award after leading the Eagles to a perfect 3-0 record, including a victory over Xavier, 30-17, 30-18, 30-19, in the night session. Eastern Michigan defeated Xavier in the morning session, 30-19, 27-30, 30-16, 30-18.

In the loss to Eastern Washington, JU senior outside hitter Alesha Rodriguez (Cleveland, Ohio) led the Dolphins with 10 kills, while Ryals and freshman libero Erin Donivan (Sarasota, Fla.) had nine digs each. Senior setter Kristin Withrow (St. Petersburg, Fla.) had 27 assists. In the Eastern Michigan match, Ryals led JU with 13 kills, while Rodriguez added 10. Withrow had 31 assists, giving her 112 in three matches, while Donivan added 11 digs.

The Dolphins return to action when they travel to Tallahassee to take on Florida State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Tully Gymnasium.
