Volleyball Cruises Past Fairfield in Crusader Classic

VALPARAISO, Ind. - Senior middle hitter Brooke Ahrens (Benson, Ill.) and junior outside hitter Radka Dimitrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) had 11 kills apiece to lead the Jacksonville University volleyball team to a 30-21, 30-23, 30-27, victory over Fairfield in the opening match of the Crusader Classic Friday at the Athletic-Recreation Center. The Dolphins (4-6), who have won their last three matches, will face host Valparaiso on Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by Northeastern at 3 p.m.

Dimitrova recorded a double-double, adding 12 digs, and filled up her scoresheet with two blocks, two assists, and an ace. Ahrens added a match-high six blocks. Senior setter Kristin Withrow (St. Petersburg, Fla.) had 34 assists, while senior outside hitter Kristy Smith tallied eight kills, six digs, four blocks (two solo) and an ace. Defensively for the Dolphins, freshman libero Erin Donivan (Sarasota, Fla.) had a career- and match-high 16 digs, while senior outside hitter Alesha Rodriguez (Cleveland, Ohio) contributed 11 digs.

The Dolphins hit .159 for the match and held the Stags to a .000 hitting percentage through the first two games and .071 for the match.

Following the tournament, the Dolphins return home for the first time in nearly a month when they host Troy State in their Atlantic Sun Conference opener on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Swisher Gymnasium.
