Volleyball Downs Lipscomb, 3-1

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Sophomore outside hitter Candice Rose (Mechanicsville, Md.) hit .300 for the match and had 14 kills and four blocks as the Jacksonville University volleyball team fought past Lipscomb, 3-1 (26-30, 30-22, 30-25, 30-24), in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Allen Arena. Junior outside hitter Radka Dimitrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) recorded her fifth double-double in her last seven matches with 12 kills and a match-high 14 digs, while senior middle hitter Brooke Ahrens (Benson, Ill.) added 10 kills and three blocks.

The Dolphins (11-12) hit .228 for the match, led by Rose, who hit .300, Dimitrova (.250) and Ahrens (.200). Lipscomb (3-19), which will join the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2003, hit only .188 for the match and were led by Kristin Peck, who had 20 kills, and Brittney Lanius, who had 14 kills and 12 digs.

JU was led defensively by sophomore libero Kelly Ryals (Gainesville, Fla.), who had 13 digs, and freshman middle blocker Danielle Neville (Greenwood Village, Colo.), who had six blocks. Senior setter Kristin Withrow (St. Petersburg, Fla.) controlled the Dolphin attack by dishing out 41 assists.

The Dolphins return to the court for their last home match on Wednesday against Bethune-Cookman at 7:30 p.m. at Swisher Gymnasium.
