Volleyball's Radka Dimitrova Named A-Sun Player of the Week

Nov. 4, 2002

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University outside hitter Radka Dimitrova earned Atlantic Sun Conference Player-of-the-Week honors after recording back-to-back 20-kill efforts and leading the Dolphins to a pair of victories, the league office announced Monday.

For the week, the 6-foot-2 junior from Sofia, Bulgaria, recorded a .400 hitting percentage, 40 kills (5.71 k/g) and 29 digs (4.14 d/g). Dimitrova has posted at least 20 kills in three of her last four matches and a double-double in five of her last six, including four straight.

On Tuesday against Bethune-Cookman, Dimitrova hit .515 for the match, pounded 20 kills, one shy of the JU record for a three-game match, and recorded 11 digs. In Friday's crucial victory over third-place Florida Atlantic, Dimitrova hit .327, while slamming 20 kills and recording a match-high 18 digs.

Dimitrova leads the Dolphins in kills (368), kills per game (4.04) and digs (261), while her kills per game average also ranks third in the A-Sun and her .268 hitting percentage ranks 11th in the league.

JU (13-12 Overall, 6-4 A-Sun) travels to Tallahassee to take on Florida A&M in non-conference action on Tuesday at 7 p.m., before traveling to Orlando for Friday's regular-season finale against first-place UCF. The Dolphins currently hold the sixth and final seed in the A-Sun Tournament, but need a victory over UCF on Friday or a loss by Jacksonville State in one of its two remaining conference matches to clinch a spot in the championship.
