Volleyball Picked Fourth in A-Sun Preseason Coaches Poll

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU volleyball team has been picked to finish fourth in the 2004 Atlantic Sun Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, as released by the league office today. The Dolphins, who are in their first season under head coach Kevin Paul, finished 15-14 last year after winning 11-consecutive matches en route to the program's third consecutive A-Sun Championship appearance. Three-time defending champion UCF was tabbed the preseason favorite, receiving seven of the possible 11 first-place votes, while Florida Atlantic was selected second with four first-place votes. Georgia State, Jacksonville University and Belmont rounded out the top five. The Dolphins return five starters from last year's squad including junior middle hitter Danielle Neville (Greenwood Village, Colo.) and sophomore outside hitter Eva Stoilova (Sofia, Bulgaria). Neville ranked third in the A-Sun with a .315 hitting percentage, while Stoilova was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team after ranking sixth in the nation with 2.35 aces per game. JU opens the 2004 season at the USF Invitational in Tampa against George Mason on Friday, Sept. 3 at 5 p.m.
