Volleyball's Streak Ends with 3-1 Loss to Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. - Sophomore outside hitter Eva Stoilova (Sofia, Bulgaria) led the Dolphins with 17 kills including a .394 hitting percentage (17-4-33), nine digs and four blocks but it was not enough as the JU volleyball team had its season-high winning streak snapped at five with a 3-1 (22-30, 19-30, 30-24, 20-30) loss to Georgia Southern in a non-conference match, Wednesday evening at the Hanner Fieldhouse. Junior setter Erin Donivan (Sarasota, Fla.) finished with 29 assists while junior middle hitter Lindsey Ward (Fernandina Beach, Fla.) added 10 kills in a losing effort. JU is now 7-10 overall while Georgia Southern improves to 13-5 on the year.

Bailey Coleman led the Eagles with a match-high 20 kills while Iulia Porumbescu (16), Kristen Kasprak (11) and Janice Pressley (10) also finished with double-digit kills. Susan Winkelman and Natalia Galantini also paced the GSU offense with 30 and 26 assists, respectively.

Georgia Southern dominated from the floor with a .349-.246 advantage in hitting percentage including marks of .500 (19-2-34) and .457 (20-4-35) in games two and four, respectively. The Eagles also held the advantage in blocks by an 8.0-5.0 margin.

JU will return to Atlantic Sun Conference play this weekend as the Dolphins host Stetson on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. The Dolphins are currently 5-2 in conference matches including a four-match winning streak against conference opponents.
