Volleyball Wins A-Sun Championship with 3-2 Victory over Belmont

ORLANDO - Sophomore outside hitters Eva Stoilova (Sofia, Bulgaria) and Petya Borisova (Sofia, Bulgaria), junior outside hitter Joanna Silva (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and junior setter Erin Donivan each tallied a double-double to lead the Jacksonville University volleyball team to a 3-2 (30-23, 28-30, 30-20, 28-30, 15-12) win over No. 2-seed Belmont (21-8) in the final match of the Atlantic Sun Championship, Saturday afternoon at UCF Arena. The Dolphins (15-13) earn their first A-Sun Championship and the program's second bid to the NCAA Tournament (1983 - Div. II).

Under first-year head coach Kevin Paul, the Dolphins have now won a program-record 10 consecutive matches against A-Sun opponents and have currently won 15 of their last 20 contests after opening the season 0-8. Junior middle hitter Lindsay Ward (Fernandina Beach, Fla.) was named A-Sun Championship MVP while Stoilova and Silva were named to the all-tournament team. Silva also set a new A-Sun Championship record by tallying 63 digs in three matches (4.8 dpg). JU earns its first conference crown since the Dolphins won the Sun Belt Conference title in 1983 (Div. II).

"This is something that's good for the program and the University," Paul said. "It feels great to have everyone come together after the start that we had."

Stoilova finished with 18 kills and 12 digs for her team leading eighth double-double of the year while Borisova tallied 17 kills and 16 digs. Silva finished with a career-high 14 kills and 23 digs while Donivan tallied 62 assists, 13 digs and eight kills. Senior Kelly Ryals (Gainesville, Fla.) added 19 digs while Ward tallied 14 kills and a team-high .478 (13-2-23) hitting percentage.

Lindsay Cleveland led the Bruins with 17 kills while Colleen Nilson tallied 13 digs and 10 kills. Josie Hackworth recorded 24 digs while Jaye Schuler (11) and Erin Janson (11) rounded out Belmont's double-digit kill performers.
