The JU volleyball team’s road back to the Atlantic Sun Championship will start Aug. 28 in Orlando, Fla. as the Dolphins announced their 2009 schedule.

JU will play two tournaments before heading into the meat of its schedule starting with the Radisson-UCF Invitational in Orlando against UCF, Bethune-Cookman and FAU. Another road tourney for the Dolphins will be the Southern Miss Tournament in Hattiesburg, Miss. against the Golden Eagles, Louisiana Tech and Sam Houston State on Sept. 4-5.

“We are very excited to get into such a competitive fall schedule,” said JU head coach Shaun Kupferberg. “Going to UCF and Southern Miss will provide us with great experience we will need because we start our conference schedule by playing some tough teams early.”

With a double round-robin format in the A-Sun, JU will play a 20-match conference schedule beginning with a road trip against defending A-Sun Champion Belmont on Sept. 11.

The Dolphins will host 10 A-Sun matches at Swisher Gymnasium, including a rematch against Belmont on Oct. 31. JU will be seeking revenge after the Bruins knocked off the Dolphins in the semifinals en route to the 2008 A-Sun title.

The Dolphins will also showcase matches against cross-town rival UNF (Sept. 16), regular-season champion FGCU (Sept. 25) and conference power Lipscomb (Oct. 30).

In Kupferberg's third season at JU, the Dolphins reached 20 wins for the first time since 1988 and finished with their lowest loss total in the Division I era.
