Senior libero Shelley Walroth notched 20 digs while senior outside hitter Brooke Singleton and junior outside hitter Brittany Lehman each finished with 11 kills to lead the JU volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-21) over Bethune-Cookman, Thursday evening at Moore Gymnasium.

JU (5-5), which won its second consecutive contest in straight sets, hit a match high .255 in the contest but finished with 14 service errors.

B-CU (3-8) finished .062 in the contest and could not overcome 23 errors (10 receiving, eight service, five ball handling).

“It was nice to see our offense clicking tonight but we can’t serve the way we did,” said JU head coach Shaun Kupferberg. “It was good to get another win and now we have to get prepared for another match tomorrow.”

Walroth, who recently surpassed 2,000 career digs, is now 163 digs shy of cracking the top 25 all-time in NCAA history.

Singleton also finished with a match-high .455 (11-1-22) hitting percentage while Lehman hit .391 (11-2-23). Senior middle blocker Nicki Kent tallied a match-high three blocks while notching six kills and a .333 (6-2-12) hitting percentage. Junior setter Hannah Munneke paced the offense with 20 assists.

Chelle Ticeson led the Wildcats with eight kills and a .421 (8-0-19) hitting percentage while Krysta Gardner led the defense with 10 digs.

In the first set, JU jumped out to an early 7-3 lead but the Wildcats answered with a 4-0 run to even the contest (7-7) after an attack error by the Dolphins. Both teams would go through four more ties until JU used a 4-0 run to take a 15-11 advantage on an ace by freshman outside hitter Alliya Drzewiecki. The Dolphins increased the lead to 19-14 with an ace by Singleton and would use a 4-0 run, fueled by consecutive kills by Singleton, to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

In the second frame, both teams went through seven ties until JU used a 6-1 run to take a 14-9 advantage on an ace by Singleton. JU increased the lead to 17-11 with a kill by Lehman and then made it 20-13 after a ball handling error by Chelle Ticeson. JU would use a 5-2 run, capped by a kill by Drzewiecki to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third set, both teams went through three ties until JU used a 3-0 run to take a 6-3 advantage on a kill by Singleton. The Dolphins increased the lead to 11-7 with a kill by sophomore outside hitter Kathryn Kane but the Wildcats answered with an 8-4 run to even the contest (15-15) after an attack error by JU. Both teams would go through two more ties until the Dolphins used a 5-1 run, capped by a Singleton kill, to take a 23-19 advantage. JU would get a kills by Lehman and Kane to end the set and take the match.

JU will return to A-Sun action to complete its week as the Dolphins host USC Upstate on Friday at 7 p.m.
