KUP'S KORNER: Fitting the pieces in the puzzle
"Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there."--Will Rodgers

With so many new faces at the beginning of the season we spent a lot of time trying to find out where everyone fit in our puzzle; too much time if I really look back on the season. But over the last few weeks we have begun to find our team’s identity. The offense is running more efficiently and the defense is a getting more aggressive with each passing day. Those are both areas that can be judged on a sliding scale so we know there is more work to be done before we are in playoff form, but at least we’ve got a definite direction we are heading toward.

We had a very good week of practice and I’m looking forward to seeing how much of that we can show on the court this weekend. It has been a fun year for me because every week you can really see our growth. Any coach or teacher can attest that the moment a student “gets it” is really the biggest thrill. Well over the last few weeks we have had a lot of those moments.

Last week we had our first home match and it was great to see some friendly faces in the crowd. With great support from students (special shout out to the crew team for their continued support), professors, and the local volleyball community we are really starting to turn Swisher into a great home court advantage. This week we start conference play with Florida Gulf Coast on Friday night. Their coach is one of the best in the business and always has the team ready to play. We have had some of our program’s best moments in this relatively new rivalry and it should be another great one on Friday night at 7pm.
