Volleyball falls to Lipscomb, 3-0
Sophomore middle blocker Alison Loeppky tallied 10 kills and a .444 (10-2-18) hitting percentage but the JU volleyball fell to Lipscomb, 3-0 (17-25, 16-25, 15-25), Saturday afternoon at the Allen Arena.
JU (12-14, 3-5) hit a match-low .180 while also finishing with four service errors and five receiving errors.
LU (18-6, 7-0) continued its run through A-Sun by hitting a match-high .410, including a .500 clip in the second set.
“We knew this was going to be a difficult match for us,” said JU head coach Shaun Kupferberg. “Lipscomb is the defending champion in the conference and they continue to play at a high level. We still have a chance to pave our own way in the next two weeks but we must be ready for the challenge.”
Along with Loeppky, freshman middle blocker Alyssa Robertson added eight kills while junior libero Ashley August led the defense with nine digs.
Meghan Hinemeyer (11 kills) and Kaycee Green (11 kills, .524 hitting percentage) each paced the Bisons offensively. Charlyn Ursell chipped in with 10 kills and a match-high .600 (10-1-15) hitting percentage while Alex Kelly added nine kills, eight digs and four blocks. Jake Pease finished with a double-double with 38 assists and 10 digs.
In the first set, Lipscomb jumped out to a 7-3 lead with a kill by Ursell and then extended the advantage to 10-5 with a kill by Hinemeyer. Both teams would trade points until the Bisons used a 4-0 run to take an 18-11 lead. Both teams would trade points the rest of the way until Lipscomb took a 1-0 lead in the match on a kill by Green.
In the second set, both teams went through three ties until the Bisons used a 5-1 run to take an 8-4 lead. Lipscomb made it 12-5 on a kill by Green and then extended the margin to 15-7 with another kill by Green. Both teams would trade point the rest of the way until an attack error by the Dolphins gave the Bisons a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
In the third frame, both teams went through four ties until the Bisons used a 5-1 run to take a 10-5 advantage. Lipscomb would use a 4-0 run to push the lead to 18-10 with a kill by Green. Both teams would trade points the rest of the way until the Bisons got consecutive kills by Hinemeyer to seal the match.
