It may be cold outside, but sunshine and sand are just around the corner as the JU sand volleyball team kicks off its 2012 inaugural schedule on March 9 against North Florida at the Dolphin Beach Volleyball Complex.

The Dolphins will compete in three home matches, two tournaments and a road contest at Stetson before hosting the A-Sun Championships on campus beginning April 20.

Following the UNF match, the Dolphins will host Hawaii on March 27 and take on Florida Atlantic two days later at home.

JU will head across the city starting March 31 for the North Florida Tournament. Among the UNF field is Pepperdine, Florida State, UAB and College of Charleston. The Dolphins will play at Stetson on April 10.

JU concludes its regular-season schedule with the Fiesta at Siesta Key Tournament in Siesta Key, Florida on April 13. The Dolphins competed at this tournament in the spring of 2011 and 2009 prior to the NCAA adding the sport last summer.

Mercer, North Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, Stetson and JU will battle for the conference first’s tournament championship at the Dolphin Beach Volleyball Complex from April 20-22.

Sand volleyball will be set up similar to collegiate tennis - with each team submitting five doubles teams to face each other in seeded matchups. With an indoor program already in place, the JU volleyball program will oversee the operation of the sand volleyball program, with the roster being comprised of the student-athletes from the volleyball program.
