Junior libero Shelley Walroth is digging her way to a bevy of program, conference and national records, but this time around, she is being recognized for her work in the classroom after receiving ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Third team accolades.

The Cincinnati, Ohio native posted a 3.65 GPA as a psychology major to earn the honor for the first time in her career. Walroth also becomes the second JU student-athlete to receive the honor this year as senior forward Keri Zwikker earned all-district third team honors on Oct. 30.

“Shelly is a great example of a true student-athlete,” said JU head coach Shaun Kupferburg. “She excels both on the court and in the classroom and we are proud to have her representing Jacksonville University.”

Already in possession of the single-season digs record at JU, Walroth surpassed Julie Heipp - 1,324 (1991-94) on the career digs list with 25 against Georgia Southern on Sept. 30 and is setting her sights on the Atlantic Sun career record. Going into this weekend’s action, she needs only 104 more digs to pass Liz Kane of Mercer (1,843) on the all-time list.

Off the court, she has been named to A-Sun academic all-conference team each year and was named to the Dean’s List as a sophomore.

Walroth and the Dolphins return to road action on Friday, when they face Kennesaw State at 7 p.m.
