Volleyball names Susan Jangada as assistant coach
JU volleyball head Michelle Collier has made her first staff hire by naming Susan Jangada as an assistant coach.
Jangada, a former Ball State standout and professional player overseas, joins the JU staff following a two-year coaching stint at Bluffton-Harrison High School in Indiana.
“Susie is a great addition to our staff,” JU head coach Michelle Collier said who played with Jangada overseas. “She brings in lot of experience and passion to our program and this university. She has great connections which will help make an immediate impact in our training and our recruiting.”
“I am excited to work with Michelle again - this time as a coach and not as teammates,” Jangada said. “This is such a great university with such a close community feeling. I am excited for the opportunity and look forward to building a good tradition here.”
Prior to Bluffton, she coached at Houston Baptist and helped it to a 26-3 record during the 2007-08 year. The Huskies ended the season winning 18 of their final 19 matches.
Jangada begin her collegiate career at Centenary College of Louisiana during the 2006-2007 campaign. She has also spent time serving as an volleyball camp instructor at University of Florida (2004-09), Florida Southern College (2003-09) and at Ball State (1999-2001, 2003).
At the club level, Jangada has coached Decatur Force Volleyball Club (2010-2012) during her time at Bluffton. She coached in France for the Stade Francais Club (2004-2005) in Paris and Istres Sport Volleyball Club (2003-04). She also coached the 11-12 year olds and beginners at the Munciana Volleyball Club in 2000.
After playing a season at Indiana State, Jangada transferred to Ball State was a key member of the two Cardinal runs to the NCAA Tournament. She earned Mid-American all-conference and all-tournament accolades during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. Jangada is ranked third all-time in hitting percentage with a .358 average.
Following her Cardinals career, she was an expansion pick in 2003 for the United States Professional Volleyball team. She later played Holland with Collier in 2003. She also played in Istres, France in 2003-2004 and in Paris from 2004-2005.
Jangada graduated from Ball State in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science and wellness. Susan and her husband, Wenderson, have a daughter, Liriana; and a son, Ferguson, who will reside in Jacksonville.
