CSU Defeats JU In CofC Thanksgiving Tourney

Charleston, S.C. - Cesurian Champagne scored 14 points, while teammates Erin Jedikowski and Kate Sanford added 11 points each as Charleston Southern defeated Jacksonville, 71-45, in the consolation game of the 1999 College of Charleston Thanksgiving women's basketball tournament Saturday at the John Kresse Arena. With the win the Lady Buccaneers improve to 1-4, while the Dolphins fall to 0-3.

Sanford scored seven first half points as CSU built a 27-18 advantage at intermission. The Lady Bucs opened the second half with an 18-4 run to build a 23-point cushion at 45-22 with 12:19 left in the game. Champagne scored seven points and Sanford added four during the opening 7:41 of the second half. Charleston Southern biggest margin (26) came at the game ending horn. Jessie Farley added 10 points for CSU and Champagne had a game-high nine rebounds. Jacksonville was paced by juniors Pam Evans and Jennifer Bergfield who had 12 points respectively. For the game, the Lady Bucs shot 42% percent from the field, hitting on 26-of-69 shots, while limiting JU to only 13-45 (28.9%). Charleston Southern outrebounded the Dolphins 40-39 and forced 32 Dolphin turnovers as well.

JU will return to action on Thursday, December 2nd at 7:00 PM when they host Georgia State in the Dolphins first home women's basketball game ever.
