Jacksonville, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's basketball program announced the signing of three players for the 2000-2001 season. All three student-athletes visited the JU campus this fall and accepted their scholarship offers during the early signing period which ended November 17, 1999.
Ehu Maha'a is a 5-8 guard from Orlando Boone High School. As a junior, she was a first team all-conference selection and team MVP as she helped lead the Braves to the Florida 6A state tournament semi-finals, earning all-tournament honors. For the season, she averaged 10 points, four assists, and three steals. According to Dolphin Head Coach Melissa Taketa, "Ehu is strong passer and we expect her to play the point guard spot at JU."
Yolisha Jackson is a 5-11 perimeter player from Kenwood High School in Clarksville, Tenn. As a junior, she averaged 18 points and 8 rebounds per game while earning All-District 10AAA honors for the season and the tournament. She was also an All-State Honorable Mention in Tennessee and was an All Mid-State selection. According to Taketa, "Jackson is able to play all three perimeter spots and is a strong defender."
Amber Jo Hallman, a 6-1 forward/center from Williamsburg, Va. scored 28 points in last week's Regional Championship game to lead Bruton High School to the Virginia State tournament this weekend. She has been awarded all district and regional honors this season. As a junior, she averaged 15 points and 7 rebounds per game. According to Taketa, "Hallman has excellent court sense and will play both the four and five spots at JU."
Of the three signings, Taketa said, "As a staff, we listed qualities we felt we needed to add to our program. Ehu, Yolisha, and Amber were the three players we really wanted and we are elated that all three will be joining the Dolphins. They visited the campus together and helped recruit each other to JU. Now that we have completed our recruiting for next fall, our staff will be able to devote all of our energy to this year's team as we prepare them for TAAC play."
JU will play its inaugural home opener Thursday December 2nd at 7:00 PM when it takes on Georgia State in a TAAC match-up.
