Dolphin Season Ends In TAAC First Round

Pelham, Ala. - Jacksonville's inaugural women's basketball season came to an end Wednesday night in the first round of the 2000 TAAC basketball tournament with a 71-62 defeat at the hands of Jacksonville State (9-18). The Dolphins, who entered the tournament as the #9 seed, finished the year at 6-22 overall and 5-13 in the TAAC.

Jacksonville State jumped on top of the Dolphins early in the game hitting their first seven 3-pointers while building a 45-27 lead at the half time break. Despite shooting 11 for 19 (57.9%) from the field in the first half, JU found themselves trailing by the second largest half time margin of the season. The Dolphins remained hot in the second half, hitting 14 of 27 (51.9%) from the field, but it was not enough as they could get no closer than the final margin of 9 points.

Leading the way for the Dolphins was freshman Milica Miljkovic with 15 points on 7 of 8 shooting from the field. Junior Angela Walker, freshman Kat Sungy, and classmate Lexie Richards joined Miljkovic in double figures with 10 points apiece. Sungy led the Dolphins with eight rebounds, while freshman Kelly Stevenson scored 7 points and handed out a team-high seven assists.
