Free Throw Woes Prove Costly As Dolphins Lose Third Straight

February 26, 2000

Jacksonville, Fla. - Jacksonville State got 20 points from preseason TAAC Player-of-the-Year Lisa Baswell as they handed Jacksonville (6-19, 5-11) their third straight loss in conference play. With the victory, the Lady Gamecocks completed the season sweep of the Dolphins and moved one spot ahead of UCF and out of the TAAC's basement.

The Dolphins hit 6-11 (54.5) from behind the three point line in the game's first 20 minutes as they built a 30-25 lead at the break. However, Jacksonville State outrebounded the Dolphins 19-10 and outscored JU 15-6 at the free throw line in the second half to complete the comeback. The Lady Gamecock victory marked the second time this season that they have rallied to knock off the Dolphins.

Leading the way for JU was freshman Lexie Richards with 16 points, 11 coming in the first half, while sophomore Lana Labura added 11 points and a team-high six rebounds. Labura, starting in place of Angela Walker who is slowed by a foot injury, led JU with four assists and hit all three of her attempts from beyond the arc in 25 minutes of action. Freshmen Kelly Stevenson and Kat Sungy each chipped in with seven points.

Baswell's sister Laura joined Lisa in double-figures with 15, while Donyale Calhoun pulled down a game-high eight rebounds to lead the Lady Gamecocks. JSU finished the game 19-22 (86.4%) from the free throw line, while JU hit just 10-20 (50.%) from the stripe.

The Dolphins will close out their first ever regular season on the road, taking on two of the TAAC's elite next weekend. JU will face Campbell on Thursday, March 2nd at 7:00 before closing at TAAC leading Georgia State on Saturday, March 4th at 1:00 PM.
