Troy State Sweeps Season Series With JU

Jacksonville, Fla. - After winning two straight and three out of their last four, Jacksonville (5-16, 4-8) was defeated by Troy State (8-13, 5-8) by the score of 63-54 in women's basketball. With the victory, the Lady Trojans' second over JU this season, Troy moves into sixth place in the TAAC, while the Dolphins drop into a seventh place tie with Stetson.

After trailing by as many as 10 points in the first half, Jacksonville closed the half on a 9-5 run to creduce the Lady Trojan lead to four at 36-32. However, the Lady Trojans once again pulled out to an double-digit lead in the second half, leading by as many as 11 twice in the final 20 minutes. Troy's ability to get to the free throw line proved to be the difference in the game as the Lady Trojans outscored JU 9-0 at the line in the second half. For the game, Troy hit on 10-14 (71.4%) from the line while Jacksonville hit just 2-5 (40.0%).

Jacksonville was led by freshman Kat Sungy's career-high 13 points and nine rebounds, while classmate Milica Miljkovic added 10 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Lexie Richards chipped in with nine points and junior Angela Walker netted eight points and grabbed eight boards. As a team the Dolphins hit 24-64 (37.5%) from the floor, including just 4-25 (16.0%) from beyond the three point line.

Ribault Highs school (Jacksonville, Fla.) graduate Chaquita Alexander led the way for the Lady Trojans with 20 points, five rebounds and three assists. The freshman's big game came just two nights after she netted a career-high 22 versus Stetson in DeLand. Sharin Milner added 16 points and Tomekia Gollatte scored 12 for the Lady Trojans. Milner also led Troy with eight assists. As a team the Lady Trojans hit 23-64 (35.9%) from the floor, including 7-22 (31.8%) from beyond the three point line.

Jacksonville will return to action on Thursday, February 17th at 5:15 when they travel to Orlando, Fla. to take on UCF, a team they beat at home earlier this season.
