Women's Hoops Opens Road Schedule With Two Games In North Carolina

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU women's basketball team opens its road schedule this weekend when the Dolphins travel to North Carolina for games against High Point University on Saturday and Elon College on Sunday.

Both games are scheduled to tip off at 3 p.m EST. Once again, the JU (1-2) squad has a chance to make history by not only earning its first-victory over a team from the Carolina's, but the Dolphins also have a chance to break the .500 barrier for the first time in team history.

The Dolphins enter the weekend averaging 57.3 points per game and 43.7 rebounds an outing. Senior forward Angela Walker (Orlando, Fla.) leads three JU players averaging double-figure scoring totals with 10.3 a game, while sophomore post player Kat Sungy (Arvada, Colo.) leads JU and the Trans America Athletic Conference with 13.7 rebounds per contest.

Sungy and senior point guard Shannon Wynn (Wasilla, Alaska) average 10.0 points each, and Wynn paces the team and the league in assists with a 5.67 average.

High Point (3-3) averages 71.3 points per game and shoots at a .413 clip from the field. The Panthers are also coming off an impressive 83-25 victory over Peace College on Wednesday. Nicki Fauntleroy leads the Panthers in scoring and rebounding with averages of 12.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Mary Brewer, meanwhile, is close behind with 12.0 points per game, and shares No. 2 rebounding honors with Gina Rosser at 5.5 a night.

After the game vs. High Point, JU remains in the state where the Dolphins will take on Elon College. Elon, who plays Morehead State on Saturday, enters the weekend 0-4 overall, and averaging 51.3 points per game on 33.9 percent shooting. Loretta Lawson paces Elon with 9.5 points per contest while Mariam McLeod leads the rebounding charge with 6.5 boards an outing.

Following the two-game swing in North Carolina, JU returns to the Sunshine State where the Dolphins will travel to Tampa for a showdown with South Florida on Thursday, Dec. 7. The Dolphins' next home game will be on Saturday, Dec. 16 when JU opens its TAAC schedule against in-state rival Stetson at 2 p.m. in Swisher Gymnasium.
