Women's Hoops Falls To Elon, 61-44, at Triad Classic

ELON, N.C. - Senior point guard Shannon Wynn (Wasilla, Alaska) had 11 points and five rebounds, but it was not enough as the Jacksonville University women's basketball team fell to Elon College, 61-44, Sunday afternoon at the Triad Classic.

JU trailed by just two points at the conclusion of the first half as Elon led 23-21 at the break. But the Phoenix outscored the Dolphins 38-23 in the second half en route to the win. With the loss, JU falls to 2-3 on the year while Elon improves to 2-4.

As the second half began, Elon ran out with a 13-6 run and never looked back. The Phoenix's Loretta Lawson earned game Most Valuable Player honors after leading all players with 13 points, including three 3-point baskets.

The Phoenix defense held JU to just seven baskets in the second half as the Dolphins shot .311 from the field for the day. Elon, meanwhile, converted 12-of-30 points in the second half and nailed 16-of-21 free throw opportunities for the game.

Freshman forward Yolisha Jackson (Clarksville, Tenn.) and sophomore post player Kat Sungy (Arvada, Colo.) led the Dolphins with seven rebounds each, while also scoring seven points a piece.

The Dolphins return to action on Thursday, Dec. 7 when they travel to Tampa to take on in-state rival South Florida at 7 p.m.
