Women's Hoops Continues Road Swith, Take On South Florida In Tampa

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's basketball team wraps up its three-game road swing when the Dolphins travel to Tampa to take on South Florida on Thursday, Dec. 7 at the USF Sun Dome.

JU (2-3) will look to bounce back and get back to .500 after a hard-fought loss at Elon College on Sunday at the Triad Classic.

The Dolphins enter the game averaging 55.2 points per game and 44.0 rebounds an outing. Senior point guard Shannon Wynn (Wasilla, Alaska) leads the Dolphins in scoring with a 10.2 points-per-game average, while sophomore post player Kat Sungy (Arvada, Colo.) leads JU and the TAAC with 10.0 rebounds per contest. Senior forward Angela Walker (Orlando, Fla.) and Sungy rank second and third on the team with scoring averages of 9.6 and 9.4, respectively.

The JU defense has played well all season, allowing opponents to score just 61.8 points per game while ranking No. 1 in the TAAC with a .377 field goal percentage defense.

South Florida, meanwhile, comes into the game 1-4 on the year, including a loss to Florida Atlantic, 93-84, Tuesday night in Boca Raton, Fla.

Aiya Shepard leads the Bulls with 21.0 points per game with 35 field goals and five 3-point baskets. Denetrice Stinson paces the club in rebounds with a 6.4 average, and ranks second on the club with 14.4 points per game. Melissa Tape is South Florida's floor leader with 22 assists and 12 steals from her point guard position.

The Bulls average 67.0 points per game and shoot at a .398 clip while allowing opponents to score an average of 76.67 points a contest on 46.4 percent shooting from the field.

After the South Florida game, JU returns home on Saturday, Dec. 16 when the Dolphins open their TAAC schedule against in-state rival Stetson at 2 p.m. in Swisher Gymnasium.
