Women's Hoops Wins Fourth Straight; Defeat Troy State, 63-46

TROY, Ala. - Lexie Richards (Mercer Island, Wash.) had a game-high 15 points and Kat Sungy (Arvada, Colo.) had her seventh double-double of the year as JU defeated Troy State, 63-46, Saturday afternoon in Trans America Athletic Conference action in Trojan Arena.

Sungy had 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds as the Dolphins won their fourth consecutive game to improve to 8-10 overall and 4-5 in TAAC play. The JU defense held Troy State to a season-low 26.5 percent shooting from the field as Troy State fell to 9-8 on the season and 5-4 in league action.

Al 15 of Richards' points came via second half 3-poiners on 5-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc, and junior reserve Lana Labura (Zagreb, Croatia) had eight points and 10 rebounds in the win. JU shot 42.6 percent from the field for the game, including a 50.0 percent clip in the second half, on 23-of-54 shooting.

Troy State drew first blook in the contest on a basket by Lauren Peckham just 53 seconds into the game, and the Lady Trojans ran out to a 10-3 lead. JU battled back to tie the score at 14-all nine minutes later, and took its first lead of the game on a jumper by freshman forward Amber Hallman (Williamsburg, Va.) to give the Dolphins a 16-14 advantage at the 4:42 mark.

It was a back-and-forth battle the rest of the half, but JU went into the lockerroom at halftime with a 23-21 lead.

In the second half, the Dolphins started hot and went on a 14-3 run to open the period, and led by 11 at the 10:59 mark on a jumper by senior forward Angela Walker (Orlando, Fla.). A jumper by Troy State's Tomeka Gollate cut the lead to nine, but that's when Richards went on her 3-point barrage.

Richards nailed two 3-pointers on consecutive possessions, freshman guard Ehu Maha'a (Orlando, Fla.) hit a layup, and Richards followed it up with three consecutive treys to give the Dolphins a 16-point lead, 58-42, with 4:41 left to play. Troy State cut the lead to four at the 2:04 mark, but JU closed out the game with a 5-0 run to seal the victory.

Golatte led the Lady Trojans with 10 points, and Laura Schwendeman paced the club with eight rebounds in the loss.

The Dolphins return to action on Thursday, Feb. 1 when they take on TAAC foe Mercer at 7 p.m. in Swisher Gymnasium.
