Kat Sungy Named TAAC Co-Player of the Week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University sophomore post player Kat Sungy (Arvada, Colo.) earned Trans America Athletic Conference Co-Player-of-the-Week honors, as announced by the league office this afternoon.

Sungy averaged 14.0 points and 14.0 rebounds a game for the Dolphins last week as JU won its sixth consecutive game, improved its overall record to 10-10 and claimed sole possession of fourth place in the league with a 6-5 conference mark. For the week, she shot .611 from the field, including a record-setting 7-for-7 performance in the Dolphins' 47-40 win over Mercer on Thursday.

She averages a double-double for the year with 11.4 points and 10.0 rebounds an outing, and became the first JU player to earn TAAC Player-of-the-Week honors after earning the distinction two weeks ago.

Against the Bears, Sungy scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while also tallying two steals, one assist and one block. She had another double-double, her ninth of the season, on Saturday in JU's 63-58 win over Troy State. Against the Lady Trojans, Sungy tied her own school record with 18 rebounds, including a school-record nine boards off the offensive glass, and scored 13 points to go along with two assists and two steals.

Sungy currently leads the TAAC in total rebounds (10.0 rpg), offensive rebounds (3.40 rpg) and defensive rebounds (6.60 rpg) while ranking fourth in field goal percentage (53.3) and tied for 11th in scoring (11.4 ppg).

Sungy shared the weekly honor with Stetson's Kaisa Tuure who averaged 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in the Hatters' two wins last week.

The Dolphins return to action on Thursday, Feb. 8, when they travel to Boca Raton, Fla., where they will do battle with the Lady Owls of Florida Atlantic in TAAC play at the FAU Gymnasium at 3 p.m.
