ORLANDO, Fla. - Three Dolphins finished with double-digit scoring totals and the defense forced 29 turnovers as the Jacksonville University women's basketball team defeated TAAC rival UCF, 64-57, Saturday afternoon at the UCF Arena.

Sophomore post player Kat Sungy (Arvada, Colo.) led the way with 18 points on 9-of-12 shooting, while senior point guard Shannon Wynn (Wasilla, Alaska) had 12 and senior forward Angela Walker (Orlando, Fla.) had 10.

Walker led the team with seven rebounds while also dishing out a team-high five assists. Wynn, who hit four straight free throws in the final minute to ice the game for JU, had a career-high five steals.

The win improved the Dolphins to 11-11 on the year and 7-6 in TAAC play. UCF, meanwhile, fell to 7-15 overall and 5-8 in conference action. JU's victory also kept the Dolphins undefeated against UCF as the squad is now 4-0 lifetime against the Golden Knights.

It was a back-and-forth battle early on as the lead never got above four points for either team in the first half. The period also featured five ties, including a pair of free throws by freshman point guard Ehu Maha'a (Orlando, Fla.) which tied the score, 27-27, with nine second to play in the stanza. After a turnover by UCF's Yvette Ash, Maha'a sent the Dolphins into the halftime lockerroom with the lead when her desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer found nothing but net.

JU held control of the game early on in the second half, and had a seven-point lead at 42-35 with 12:13 left to play. The Golden Knights, however, went on a 11-1 run to take a 46-43 lead less than three minutes later.

The Dolphins would respond, though, with a 8-0 run to retake a seven-point lead that they would never relinquish. UCF cut the lead to three at 55-52 with 4:24 to play on a layup by Adrienne Billings, but JU rattled off five straight points to put the game away. A 3-pointer by Lanetra Cooks, her sixth of the game, cut the lead to five at 60-55 with 44 second to go, but the Dolphins hit their free throws down the stretch to close out the win. UCF's Cooks led all players with 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting while Kaliah Guillory and Nicole Dunson each tallied 12.

The Dolphins return to action on Thursday, Feb. 15 when they take on TAAC rival Jacksonville State at 7 p.m. in Swisher Gymnasium.
