Women's Basketball Names Lisa Diefenthaler Assistant Coach

June 10, 2002

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's basketball program has hired Lisa Diefenthaler as an assistant coach, head coach Melissa Taketa announced Monday. Diefenthaler will serve as the program's recruiting coordinator as well as working with the Dolphin guards.

"Lisa's recruiting experience coming from Louisville will be a great asset to our program," Taketa said. "With her on-court experience of playing four years at point guard, she will be instrumental in the development of our backcourt."

Diefenthaler comes to JU after spending two seasons as an assistant at Louisville, where she helped the Cardinals to a combined 36-22 record and the Conference USA regular season and tournament championships in 2001. She also played a significant role in signing a nationally-recognized Top 30 recruiting class and guiding Cardinal point guard Sara Nord, who led Conference USA in assists, to numerous freshman All-America honors.

Prior to Louisville, Diefenthaler spent two seasons as an assistant coach for her alma mater, Valparaiso. While at Valpo, her main responsibility was recruiting and coaching of the guards. Diefenthaler played point guard for the Crusaders from 1992-96, finishing her career ranked third on Valpo's all-time assists list with a total of 367 and sixth on the all-time steals list with 151. During her four years at Valpo, Diefenthaler guided the Crusaders to an overall record of 61-47, while leading the team in scoring as a senior en route to second team All-Mid-Continent Conference honors.

Diefenthaler, a native of Waynesboro, Va., earned her bachelor's degree in business administration from Valpo in 1996.

The Dolphins open the 2002-03 season by hosting Morris Brown on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. at Swisher Gymnasium.
