JU Women's Basketball Falls To UNC Wilmington, 71-41

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Jacksonville University senior forward Kat Sungy scored a game-high 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds, but the Dolphins dropped a 71-41 decision to host UNC Wilmington in the semifinals of the Hilton Wilmington Riverside Classic Friday night at Trask Coliseum.

Junior guard Lexie Richards scored eight points, while sophomore center Kara Donnell added six points and a game-high eight rebounds. The Dolphins (1-1) shot 41 percent from the field for the game and were outrebounded, 34-30.

Shameka Montgomery paced the Seahawks (2-0) with 13 points, and Rachel Wojdowski added 10. Jennifer Kapper and Cherie Lee added nine each, while Shannon Presswood led UNCW on the glass with seven boards. UNCW shot 47 percent from the field for the game and forced the Dolphins into 28 turnovers.

UNCW started the game with a 12-2 run and never looked back as they took a 35-22 lead into the locker room. The Seahawks' final margin of victory was their largest lead of the game.

In the other semifinal, Furman downed Charleston Southern, 84-64. The Dolphins face Charleston Southern (1-2) in the consolation game Saturday at 7 p.m., while Furman and UNC Wilmington play in the championship game at 5 p.m.
