ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Jacksonville University junior forward Yolisha Jackson (Clarksville, Tenn.) hit a pair of free throws with 2.7 seconds left as the Dolphins rallied past Navy, 75-73, Sunday afternoon at Alumni Hall. Junior guard Lexie Richards (Mercer Island, Wash.) hit 5-of-8 from three-point range to lead JU (2-3) with 15 points, while sophomore center Kara Donnell (Mattoon, Ill.) added 14 points and senior forward Kat Sungy (Arvada, Colo.) had 12 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
Navy (4-3) led, 57-48, with 11:27 left in the game, the largest lead by either team all day, but freshman guard Tara Eddy (Vienna, Va.) sparked the Dolphins in front of her home crowd with seven-straight points, including a three-pointer with 8:48 left to cut the Navy lead to 57-55. There were six ties and nine lead changes over the final 6:08 and JU trailed, 73-70, after Navy's Bryanna Herring converted a three-point play with 1:02 remaining.
The Dolphins stepped up as junior guard Katie McDonald (Chandler, Ariz.), who ended up with nine points and six assists, drilled a trey to tie the game with 44 seconds left, and Jackson made a steal on the other end to give JU possession. Jackson then drove baseline with the clock winding down and drew the foul to go to the line and seal the victory.
JU shot 63 percent from the field for the game and outrebounded the Midshipmen, 37-23. The Dolphins also hit 57 percent from three-point range (8-of-14) and 82 percent from the line (9-of-11), including 7-of-7 in the second half.
Courtney Davidson led Navy with 25 points, including 17 in the second half, while Herring added 21 points and six boards. Adrienne Roseti had 12 points, five rebounds and six assists.
The Dolphins return home for a seven-game homestand, beginning with College of Charleston on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Swisher Gymnasium.
