Kat Sungy Named A-Sun Women's Basketball Player of the Week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University senior forward Kat Sungy earned Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week honors after recording a double-double in both of the Dolphins' games last week the league office announced Monday. For the week, the Arvada, Colo., native averaged 15.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists against Navy and South Florida.

In Sunday's 75-73 victory over Navy, Sungy shot 6-of-8 from the field and scored 12 points, pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and handed out five assists for her second double-double in as many games and the 25th of her career. She also topped the 900-point mark (903) as she inches closer to becoming the first Dolphin to score 1,000 points.

Against South Florida on Wednesday, Sungy had a game-high 18 points and 12 boards, while shooting 5-of-12 from the field and 8-of-11 from the free-throw line.

Sungy currently leads JU and ranks fifth in the A-Sun with 14.2 points per game and leads the conference in field goal percentage at 68.2 percent. She also leads the league with 10.2 rebounds per contest after leading the league in boards the last two seasons.

The Dolphins return to action when they host College of Charleston on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Swisher Gymnasium to start a seven-game homestand.
