Women's Basketball Falls to College of Charleston, 63-57

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University senior forward Kat Sungy (Arvada, Colo.) led the Dolphins with 16 points, 12 rebounds and a career-high four blocked shots for her third-straight double-double and fourth of the season as JU dropped a 63-57 decision to College of Charleston Saturday afternoon at Swisher Gymnasium.
Junior guard Lexie Richards (Mercer Island, Wash.) hit 4-of-7 from behind the arc for 12 points, while sophomore center Kara Donnell (Mattoon, Ill.) also added 12 points and nine boards and junior forward Yolisha Jackson (Clarksville, Tenn.) had 11 points.
JU (2-4) shot 42 percent from the field and 46 percent (5-of-11) from 3-point range, but were outrebounded, 34-28, and turned the ball over 26 times. College of Charleston (4-2) shot 45 percent from the field, but only 1-of-9 from long range.
There were nine lead changes and two ties in the first half as the game was tied at the half, 29-29. The Cougars took the lead for good at the 16:10 mark after a 3-pointer from Marketta Talley made the score, 39-36. The Dolphins cut the lead to one on five occasions, the last time with 1:47 left to play.
Wilma Simpson had a game-high 17 points and 16 rebounds, while Rachel King had 11 points and Tiffany Green added 10.
The Dolphins return to action when they host Florida State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Swisher Gymnasium.
