Florida State Outlasts Women's Basketball, 71-51

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's basketball team started off hot but fell to Florida State, 71-51, in non-conference action Wednesday night at Swisher Gymnasium. Senior forward Kat Sungy (Arvada, Colo.) led the Dolphins with 14 points and six rebounds, while junior guard Lexie Richards (Mercer Island, Wash.) added 13 points.
Richards, the Atlantic Sun's leading 3-point shooter, hit 3-of-8 from behind the arc and finally took a two-pointer after a streak of 32-straight 3-point attempts. Sophomore center Kara Donnell (Mattoon, Ill.) had seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.
The Dolphins scored the first five points of the game, but Florida State (7-1) responded with an 8-0 run and didn't give up the lead the rest of the way. Genesis Choice led three Seminoles in double figures with 15 points and six boards, while Tasheika Morris added 11 and LaQuinta Neely had 10 points and seven steals.
JU shot 43.5 percent from the field and 5-of-14 from behind the arc, while Florida State shot 51.9 percent from the field and only 1-of-6 from long range. The Dolphins outrebounded the Seminoles, 32-24, including 11-5 on the offensive glass, but turned the ball over 28 times. Florida State led, 33-26, at the half behind nine points from Morris.
The Dolphins will have 10 days off for the holidays before returning home to host Fordham on Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. at Swisher Gymnasium.
