Fordham Drops Women's Basketball, 65-45

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior forward Kat Sungy (Arvada, Colo.) led Jacksonville University with 15 points and 11 rebounds, her fifth double-double of the season, but the Dolphins fell to Fordham, 65-45, in non-conference action Saturday night at Swisher Gymnasium.

Beth Ann Dickinson led all scorers with 19 points, while Caitlin Chiaramonte added 15 points and eight rebounds and Mobolaji Akiode had 11 points for Fordham (7-3). Freshman guard Tara Eddy (Vienna, Va.) scored a career-high eight points off the bench for the Dolphins (2-6).

The Rams (7-3) used a pair of runs at the beginning of each half to put the Dolphins away, starting the game with a 19-0 run over the first six minutes of the game and taking a 33-19 lead into the locker room. Fordham then began the second half with a 17-0 run over the first five minutes to push the lead to 50-19.

The Rams shot 47 percent for the game, while holding the Dolphins to a season-low 32 percent from the floor, including only 1-of-12 from 3-point range. The Dolphins were outrebounded, 34-31, and turned the ball over 28 times, but cut into the deficit by hitting 18-of-27 from the free-throw line.

The Dolphins return to action when they host Long Island on Monday at 4:30 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader with the JU men's team, which will host UNC Wilmington at 7 p.m. at Swisher Gymnasium.
